How We Help

At Talk in the Nest, we provide personalized speech and language therapy for children in Minneapolis, Edina, and surrounding Twin Cities communities. We specialize in late talkers, listening and spoken language therapy for children who are deaf or hard of hearing, speech sound disorders, autism, gestalt language processing, and parent coaching through a warm, family-centered approach.

In-Home Speech Therapy

Speech therapy will help your child communicate authentically with others by focusing on functional words and phrases that you use at home every day. We offer in-home therapy in the western metro to support children in their natural environment.

Nature-Based Speech Therapy

Nature-based speech therapy embeds your child’s work into outdoor play. Whether we’re going on a leaf hunt, reading a seasonal book, or playing “house” in a stick fort, time in nature promotes wellbeing and connection. Now offering: summer speech intensive.

Virtual Therapy & Coaching

We will meet on a secure virtual platform for our convenient teletherapy and coaching sessions. Parent coaching will guide and empower you to be your child’s best advocate. You will feel confident about helping your child thrive.

What Makes Us Different?

At Talk in the Nest, we know every child is unique—and their therapy should be too. Our approach builds on each child’s strengths to nurture growth and confidence. Together with parents, we create a supportive space where children can feel connected, capable, and empowered to find their own voice.

Meet Erika King,
MA, CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert AVT

Erika King is an experienced speech language pathologist and listening and spoken language specialist, certified auditory verbal therapist, providing speech therapy for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and children with speech delays.

Owner | Speech-Language Pathologist | Listening and Spoken Language Specialist

For more than 16 years, I’ve supported children and families as a pediatric speech-language pathologist specializing in listening and spoken language development, speech delays, and family-centered care. As an LSLS Cert. AVT, I work closely with parents to help children who are deaf or hard of hearing develop strong listening, spoken language, and communication skills.

Through in-home, virtual, and nature-based speech therapy services in Minneapolis and the Twin Cities, I create individualized support that honors each child’s strengths, sensory needs, and communication style. My approach is neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and grounded in connection.

As a lifelong learner, I continue to integrate training in speech-language pathology, auditory-verbal therapy, nature-based education, and trauma-informed practices to meet each child where they are.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me spending time with my husband and two children, exploring the outdoors and tending to our garden. I look forward to learning more about your family and walking this journey with you.

Testimonials

  • "We highly recommend Erika..."

“Without Erika's skill and discernment, I don't think our daughter's speech would be understandable today. Erika identified a problem with how our daughter’s hearing was being treated, showed us how her speech and language were affected, and guided us to address the concern with her audiologist. Now our daughter is a confident learner in the classroom. We highly recommend Erika as a specialist, not just in listening and spoken language for children who are deaf/hard of hearing, but also as an empathic parent coach who helped us navigate our journey with dignity and compassion.”

    - Janelle

  • "I am a better advocate for my child because of her."

“Erika has been an incredible resource for me as I navigate schooling for my 6-year-old who has learning differences. I leave our coaching sessions feeling empowered, confident, and with at least one concrete objective to work on. I am a better advocate for my child because of her. Every time I see her working with a child, she is kind, patient, playful, and understanding while also responding to behavior in a skillful way.”

    - Jamie

  • "You and your child will be in excellent hands with Erika."

"Erika is an amazing clinician and parent coach. She has a gift for engaging children in meaningful and fun therapy. Her highly specialized knowledge and skills make her truly one of a kind! You and your child will be in excellent hands with Erika.”

    - Alison, Parent and Speech Therapist

“Kids do well if they can. If they can’t, we need to figure out what’s getting in their way.”
