Speech & Language Therapy for Children in the Twin Cities

We partner with parents to help children thrive!

Welcome!

Welcome to Talk in the Nest! We are a private practice dedicated to offering the highest level of speech and language therapy to families in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. We bring speech therapy to the comfort of your home, making it easier for your family to focus on what matters most— connection and growth.

At Talk in the Nest, we support children in pronouncing sounds, using more words, creating sentences, attending to sounds, and understanding words and concepts. Our goal is to bring compassion and skill to every interaction and provide individualized guidance to you and your child every step of the way.

Along with home-based sessions, we offer nature-based speech therapy in and around Minneapolis. Your child will love learning new skills through play!

Our Philosophy

At Talk in the Nest, we believe in:

  • A holistic approach to speech therapy that considers the child’s physical, sensory, social-emotional and cognitive needs

  • Play-based therapy that helps your child reach their goals while having fun

  • Neurodiversity-affirming care that values connection over compliance

  • Therapy that builds children’s confidence in using their own voice

  • Empowering parents with knowledge and resources to help their child

How We Help

In-Home Speech Therapy

Speech therapy will help your child express themselves and authentically communicate with others. We love supporting children in their natural environment, where we will focus on functional words and phrases that you use at home every day.

Nature-Based Speech Therapy

Nature-based speech therapy embeds your child’s speech or language work into outdoor play. Whether we’re going on a leaf hunt, reading a seasonal book, or playing “house” in a stick fort, time in nature promotes wellbeing and connection.

Virtual Parent Coaching

Virtual parent coaching guides and empowers you to be your child’s best advocate. After coaching sessions, you will feel confident about helping your child thrive! Virtual auditory-verbal therapy is also available for families with children who are deaf/hard of hearing.

Talk in the Nest Specializes in:

Language Delays / Late Talkers
Gestalt Language Processing
Deaf or Hard of Hearing
Auditory Processing
Speech Sounds

Meet Your Speech Therapist

Erika R. King
MA, CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert AVT

Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist
Listening & Spoken Language Specialist

Hi, I’m Erika, a mom and a speech-language therapist who understands that the best learning stems from connection. My mission is to partner with families to help children reach their full potential!

I founded Talk in the Nest after more than 16 years of experience working with children and families in a variety of settings, including Early Intervention, Early Childhood Special Education and a pediatric outpatient clinic.

Throughout my career, I’ve been dedicated to supporting children with a wide range of communication needs— particularly children with language delays and children who are deaf or hard of hearing. My therapy approach combines research-based strategies with a sensitivity to the unique needs of every child I work with. As a lifelong learner, I integrate training in speech-language pathology, nature-based education, and trauma-informed practice to truly meet each child where they are.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children, exploring the great outdoors and gardening. I look forward to learning about your family!

Kind Words

  • "We highly recommend Erika..."

“Without Erika's skill and discernment, I don't think our daughter's speech would be understandable today. Erika identified a problem with how our daughter’s hearing was being treated, showed us how her speech and language were affected, and guided us to address the concern with her audiologist. Now our daughter is a confident learner in the classroom. We highly recommend Erika as a specialist, not just in listening and spoken language for children who are deaf/hard of hearing, but also as an empathic parent coach who helped us navigate our journey with dignity and compassion.”

    - Janelle

  • "I am a better advocate for my child because of her."

“Erika has been an incredible resource for me as I navigate schooling for my 6-year-old who has learning differences. I leave our coaching sessions feeling empowered, confident, and with at least one concrete objective to work on. I am a better advocate for my child because of her. Every time I see her working with a child, she is kind, patient, playful, and understanding while also responding to behavior in a skillful way.”

    - Jamie

  • "You and your child will be in excellent hands with Erika."

"Erika is an amazing clinician and parent coach. She has a gift for engaging children in meaningful and fun therapy. Her highly specialized knowledge and skills make her truly one of a kind! You and your child will be in excellent hands with Erika.”

    - Alison, Parent and Speech Therapist
